Useful Advice
The active principle contained in Vomisal is Cephaelis ipecacuanha,
ipecac or ipecacuanha.
The ipecac belongs to the family of the Rubiaceae (madder family) and
is native to the
tropical-wet forests of Brazil.
The dried root is used.
Direction of Action
- Vagus nerve (main verve of the parasympathetic system)
consequently action on the digestive organs and respiratory tract
as well as their mucous membranes
Cephaelis ipecacuanha is a medicine for acute cases.
Cardinal Symptoms
Digestive Organs
Continuous nausea with emesis, even with an empty stomach
Diarrhea with vomiting and cramps. Vomiting does not improve the nausea.
An important symptom is the absence of any kind of coating on the tongue.
Diarrhea with vomiting in small animals without stress on the circulatory
system (with concurrent circulatory insufficiency Veratrum should be
considered instead).
Periodicity of symptoms, return every second day.
Tendency to bright red, pale white haemorrhages.
Ruminants and horses cannot vomit; diarrheas occur in them:
The diarrheas are yellow-greenish, watery, frothy, as if fermented,
also bloody.
The intestinal catarrh can also result in violent cramp colics with
severe abdominal pain; in the process the body is stretched and kept
stiff.
Horses are extremely restless, throw themselves down and jump back up
just as suddenly; the moan and look behind themselves.
Respiratory organs
Watery rhinitis with much sneezing, light-red nose bleeds.
Dry, spasmodic cough, hollow and paroxysmal; mucous rales.
Coughing linked to emesis; coughing with every breath.
Dyspnoeic after the slightest exertion.
