Drug Picture - Cardinal Symptoms
Dry coughing, which improves with eating and drinking. Breathing is difficult. After slight exertion already weak. Very fearful and easily frightened. Highly sensitive to contact on neck; the thyroid is swollen.
Exacerbation at night and due to movement.

In addition to its organtropic relationship to the thyroid, there is an effect on the lymph glands, the larynx and the trachea. A major point of attack is also the heart. Normalisation of the heart rate is also very helpful for the restoration of the normal condition. In addition to the previously mentioned indications, the drug picture provides further treatment options. For example, its application has frequently proved successful for chronic bronchial catarrhs in veterinary medicine.
Spongia officinalis is indicated in veterinary medicine for the treatment of thyroid diseases, particularly for hyperthyreosis and goitre formation. Also for diseases of the respiratory tract; in this case, Strumisal finds its field of application, above all, for chronic bronchial catarrhs and for organically induced cardiac complaints.

The enlargement of the thyroid in young animals is an important indication for Strumisal.

Strumisal develops its therapeutic action on the respiratory organs, above all, for dry chronic bronchial catarrhs with tormenting, hacking cough without sputum. In this context, its application is to be particularly recommended in horses. In contrast, for cases of productive bronchitis Vomisal is the medicine of choice (see there).

For the treatment of rhinitis, Spongia is indicated due to its drug picture, also for organic heart diseases, such as severe palpitations, tachycardia and the dyspnea accompanying it as well as goitre heart.

In the domestic animal practice, Strumisal is recommended as an adjuvant to iodine therapy for thyroid inflammation in budgerigars. In this context, approximately 5 drops of the injection solution are added to the drinking water daily.
